The underlying data is derived from the publication:
Results From the 2002 National Survey on Drug Use and Health: Detailed Tables, Substance Abuse and Mental
Health Services Administration, September 2003.
These are the latest data available. The changing numbers in the dynatable [explanation of dynatable] assume
that the new initiates are evenly distributed throughout the year.

Rounding Errors may account for an occasional phenomenon
whereby a weekly or daily count may increase by 1 but not the
monthly or yearly counts. This adjusts within seconds and should
not be perceived as indicative of a malfunction in the dynatable.
The following table, derived from the Results From the 2002 National Survey on Drug Use and Health: Detailed Tables,
shows the number of seconds elapsed, on the average, for each
new user in America.
This is a table of data that is dynamic—not static. It changes
constantly as you view it to reflect the fact that the underlying
data also is changing constantly—in this case over time. For
example, every 15 seconds another American uses marijuana for
the first time. If you were to view the dynatable in this
section for a minute, you would see the marijuana totals increment
by 4. If you accessed the dynatable 24 hours later the totals
would show 5,760 more first-time marijuana users.
Printing Dynatables
Despite the fact that the dynatable is constantly being
updated, you may print it at any point in time. You will print
the then current data together with the current time on which
they are based. Print a dynatable the same way as you would
any other Web material. Use the "PRINT" button on your
browser as you usually would.
Saving Dynatables
Dynatables and files containing dynatables can be
saved just as any other material on the World Wide Web. However,
when you do save a file containing a dynatable, you will
obtain a static table with the data that was in place at the exact
time of the download and save. If you want more current data
at a later time, you must access the dynatable on the Web
again, and you will have the latest information.
