Substance Abuse Treatment Advisory: Naltrexone for Extended-Released Injectable Suspension for Treatment of Alcohol Dependence
In April 2006, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved a new extended-release injectable formulation of naltrexone (Vivitrol®) for the treatment of alcohol dependence. This issue of Substance Abuse Treatment Advisory answers questions treatment providers, particularly counselors and program administrators, may have about injectable naltrexone.

TIP 32: Treatment of Adolescents With Substance Use Disorders
Specialized treatment for adolescents and current program components and approaches are discussed in this TIP.

TIP 42: Substance Abuse Treatment for Persons With Co-Occurring Disorders

The Surgeon General’s Call to Action To Prevent and Reduce Underage Drinking 2007
The Surgeon General's Call to Action seeks to raise awareness of and promote action on underage drinking and its effects. In addition to bringing attention to underage drinking and its consequences, the Call to Action identifies six goals for prevention and reducing youth drinking. The Report was developed in collaboration with the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
