How Much Do States Spend on Prevention?

State Alcohol/Drug Agencies spent $3.4 billion in local, State, and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services funds for all alcohol and other drug (AOD) services. Fifteen percent of all AOD expenditures - $540 million - was spent on prevention. The amount spent for prevention has grown steadily from $128 million in 1983.
