How Much Have We Saved Through Prevention?

Alcohol-related admissions to hospitals declined from 38 to 20 per 10,000 population due to prevention. As a result, $1.9 billion less was spent for hospital care for alcohol-specific admissions in 1991 than in 1981. This amount would pay the employers' share of health insurance premiums for 1.5 million employees.
